Damerham & District Horticultural Society
Damerham & District Horticultural Society

CENTENARY YEAR

On Saturday 18th July 1925 a horticultural, industrial and poultry exhibition was held on the cricket field in Damerham, the schedule included classes for 12 boiled potatoes, a hemmed duster and handwriting.

The horticultural show in the marquee has been a feature of village life for 100 years. This year the show will be on Saturday 26th July.   There will be a display from the Society’s archives which will include copies of the 1925, 1926, 1927 and 1928 schedules for you to peruse

The Damerham and District Horticultural Society welcomes members from Damerham, Martin, Rockbourne, Whitsbury, Sandleheath and beyond.  Membership of the society is open to anyone with an interest in gardens and gardening or who just enjoy meeting other local people with similar interests.

Annual membership costs £8.00 per person or £12.00 for a couple.  Non members are always welcome to all our events for a small cost of £3.00.

The Society arranges about one event per month, including talkes, garden visits and workshops.  The highlights of the year are our two shows.  The first, in the spring is held in Damerham Village Hall.  The summer show is held in a magnificent marquee on the sportsfield as part of the Damerham Summer Fair on the last Saturday in July.  Non members are very welcome to enter both the spring and summer shows.

Each May a plant sale is held in a garden in Martin, where there are teas, cakes and other stalls.
